To my brothers and sisters in Christ, Pressing In, In 2010 is more than just a nice little saying that rhymes. We are at the threshold of a new year. Ordinarily, this is the time of the year when people of all walks of life begin to make promises, set new goals, or make the proverbial new years’ resolutions. Last year is gone and for many it could not have passed fast enough. In 2009, many people lost their jobs; some lost homes through fires and flood waters; the housing market also took a dismal turn south; banks fail; the auto industry records colossal losses; crime and corruption were on the increase while the cost of staying healthy soared upward. These are only some of the main events of 2009. Needless to say that depression and hopelessness were widespread. And there were some who ended their lives when they lost their fortunes.
Thus 2009 came to an end and God has given me a word for those who are in need of new hope. Remember, God always answers the cry of the faithful. The message of pressing in has to do with our relationship with God. “Pressing in, in 2010” really originated from the word of God. In Philippians 3:13-14, the apostle Paul makes this statement to the saints that are in Christ at Philippi, “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. I press toward the mark (goal) for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Please understand that when Paul wrote these words, he was imprisoned at Rome. This was not an easy time for the apostle Paul and yet he was able to encourage the church at Philippi because he kept his eyes on the high calling of God. Regardless of the problems we face in 2009, the time has come for the saints of God to turn their eyes toward Jesus Christ. There must be a shift in our priorities in 2010. We must return to our first love. The message of the Lord is, “Return unto me and I will return unto you, saith God.” Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek ye (this means you) first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things (material things) will be added unto you.”
Here are some tips for pressing into God 2010:
- Repent to God for all past sins. (Keep a short list with God)
- Develop a regular prayer life- not to be seen of men, but to be heard of God. (Luke 18:1)
- Have faith in God. (Romans 10:17; Mark 11:22; Hebrew 11:6)
- Change your confession from negative to positive based on the promises of God. (Proverbs 12:14; 18-21)
- Study the word of God daily. (II Timothy 2:15)
- Allow the Holy Spirit to stretch you by believing for the impossible. (Do not limit God- think big because you serve a big God) (Matthew 19:26)
- Fast as often as you can to keep your carnal nature under the control of the spirit-man. (Matthew 6:16-18)
- Make sacrifices unto God worthy of his status, sowing into the Kingdom of God because you love God (Also give out of your need).
- Speak to your adversary, the devil, with authority and forcefulness based on the word of God.
- If you do not have it, develop a spirit of humility; God resists the proud in heart. (Luke 14:11; I Peter 5:6-7)
- Worship the Lord in the beauty of His holiness and in the spirit and in truth. (John 4:23-24)
- Become Kingdom minded; you are in truth a King’s Kid with all the privileges and rights granted you by a loving Father and Elder Brother (Jesus Christ). (Romans 8:14-17)
I can truly tell you that it is the will of God to lift his church above and beyond the hopelessness of 2009. He wants to take those who truly believe in Him and trust Him to another level. This is why we must Press In, In 2010.
And there is more to come!!
